Module “Textile Intervention”, Zurich University of the Arts, March 2021, three weeks.
For the anniversary of “50 years of women’s rights in Switzerland” I developed a coat made from paraglider fabric with sprayed lettering on the back, which can be inflated by a slight impulse of the person wearing the coat.
I started from the feminist idea to take up space as a woman in the patriarchy. I had the image of two people walking towards each other on a narrow pathway. One must make space. I am mostly the person giving space, predominantly to masculine presenting people.
The project is a personal reflection on positions in society. As an intervention I walked through Zurich, wearing the coat and inflating it when someone walked towards. I would like to point out that I as a white cis woman certainly have more privileges than others. I am usually given more space in our society, but still we fight together for equality.
